Graduate Student Award: Hannah E. Correia


Hannah Correia Hannah E. Correia is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Biological Sciences. She develops statistical methods to model high-dimensional data common to ecological and climatic studies and predict animal population responses to changes in their environments. Her work has been published in both statistical and biological journals. Hannah will be joining Harvard University in September as a Data Science Postdoctoral Fellow.

Along with being awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Hannah was also awarded NSF Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW) funding to pursue research in Norway. Hannah annually participates in collaborative research in southern Africa as part of the NSF-funded US-Africa Collaborative Research Network in Mathematical Sciences.

Hannah was the first Auburn University student to receive the Katherine S. McCarter Graduate Student Policy Award from the Ecological Society of America. This prestigious award provided her with an unparalleled opportunity to receive policy and communication training and meet with congressional policymakers on Capitol Hill to discuss the importance of federal funding for biological and ecological sciences.
