AUBURN SYMPHONIC BAND TO PERFORM IN AUBURN NOV. 30

AUBURN -- The Auburn University Symphonic Band will perform in a free concert on Tuesday (Nov. 30) at the Auburn High School auditorium.

The Symphonic Band, a select group of 70 musicians and the premiere ensemble of the Auburn University Band program, will perform at 8 p.m.

The concert will offer a unique variety of musical styles including contemporary as well as traditional works. The symphonic band is conducted by Johnnie Vinson, director of bands and professor of music at AU,

The concert will open with "Radetzky March" by Austrian composer Johann Strauss, Sr. Other works will include "West Point Symphony" by Morton Gould, the second-ever performance of "Triumphal Ode" by American composer Howard Hanson and "Old Homes Days", a setting of turn-of-the-century American music by Charles Ives.

A special feature of the concert will be the performance by soloist Rick Good, associate director of bands at AU and an assistant professor of low brass. Good will perform "Night Song" for euphonium and wind ensemble by American composer Ron Nelson.

The program will conclude with Henry Fillmore's "Rolling Thunder March."
