BROWN NAMED CHAIR OF AU DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

AUBURN -- Alfred E. Brown has been named interim chair of the new Department of Biological Sciences in Auburn University's College of Science and Mathematics.

Biological sciences was created through the merger of the departments of botany-microbiology and zoology, effective Oct. 1. Brown, who previously headed the department of botany and microbiology, was named interim chair at that time.

Brown, who came to Auburn in 1980, holds a bachelor's degree from Cal State-Long Beach and a Ph.D. from UCLA.

His research emphasis is on how herbicides act on photosynthetic bacteria and microbial populations in the soil and he has co-authored many papers related to that emphasis that have been published in various scholarly journals.
