Certificate Info and Application
Certificate Application
Students who earn a certificate must fill out the Certificate Application. Enrollment in UNIV 4AA0-CRT is required to gain access to the application. The following directions will assist in completing your certificate application:
- Log in to AU Access
- Click on My Academics
- Click on Student Menu

- Click on Certificate Application
- Fill out application and click Submit
- Click Return to Edit Page (if needed) to make any changes and click Submit again if changes were made
- Click Finish
Certificate Shipping
- Certificates will be mailed to students about 6 - 8 weeks after the end of term in Spring and Summer terms and about 8 - 10 weeks after the end of term in Fall due to holiday schedule.
- Certificates are shipped by the United States Postal Service.
- A United States address is recommended for delivery success.
- Tracking numbers are not available to some international countries.
- If a U.S. address is not available for certificate delivery, it is recommended that the certificate be shipped to a friend or relative in the U.S.
- If an international address is used for certificate delivery and the certificate is delayed or not delivered, then the student will incur the cost of a replacement certificate.
- An email will be sent to the student’s Auburn University email address once the certificate ships.
- It is the student’s responsibility to provide a sufficient/relevant address on their Certificate Application for the time of shipment.
- Certificates will not be ordered for any student with a hold on their record. Please visit Graduation Holds for additional information.
Returned Certificates
- If a certificate is returned to our office after an attempted delivery, a notification will be sent to the student’s Auburn University email address.
- Returned certificates will be held for one year after the student’s certificate awarded date.
- Certificates not claimed after one year will be shredded and result in the student requesting a replacement certificate.
Certificate Format
- Certificates are 11” (wide) by 8.5” (high).
Certified Electronic Credentials
Auburn University now offers Certified Electronic Diplomas and Certificates (CeDiploma/CeCertificate) for graduates, beginning with Spring 2021 graduates.
You will receive an email to your AU email account with a link to download your credential when it is available from our trusted partner, CeCredential Trust.

- Auburn University’s records will reflect one official graduation date for each term which will appear on diplomas and transcripts.
- The date that a student attends a commencement ceremony may not necessarily be the official graduation date for that term since there are multiple ceremonies sometimes over multiple days.
Graduation Associated Dates/Deadlines
January 11 – Spring 2023 Diploma Application Opens
- Available for access to students enrolled in the Spring 2023 UNIV 4AA0 Achieve the Creed course
- The application serves three purposes associated with graduation:
- Printing of name in the commencement program booklet
- Ceremony attendance
- Diploma name and delivery
March 2 – UNIV 4AA0 Achieve the Creed Course Enrollment Deadline
Must be enrolled in UNIV 4AA0 Achieve the Creed course to officially be on the term’s graduation list and for publication of name in the commencement program booklet.
May 6 – Diploma Name and Diploma Address Deadline
Final deadline to submit diploma data (diploma name and mailing address) on the Diploma Application.
May 19 – Outstanding Work Deadline
Must finalize any outstanding work (transient work, Incomplete and/or NR grades, etc.) needed to meet degree requirements for Spring 2023.
Awarding of Degrees
The degree audit occurs after the graduation ceremonies. Degrees are awarded about 5 - 7 business days after commencement.
Diplomas
- Diplomas (ships in tube) and miniature diplomas (ships in letter envelope) will be mailed to students about 6 - 8 weeks after the Spring and Summer commencement and about 8 - 10 weeks after the Fall commencement due to the holiday schedule.
- Diplomas are ordered after the degree audit is complete.

Graduation Fees
- Graduation Fee - Generated from enrollment in UNIV 4AA0 Achieve the Creed course which is an administrative course (non-graded, no coursework).
- A $40.00 graduation fee is applied to every degree candidate.
- Each graduation attempt requires enrollment in the UNIV 4AA0 Achieve the Creed course.
- It is the degree candidate’s responsibility to re-enroll in the UNIV 4AA0 Achieve the Creed course for a future graduation term.
- Clearing Graduation Fee - Generated from enrollment in UNDG 4900 Clearing Graduation course which is an administrative course (non-graded, no coursework).
- A $450.00 clearing graduation fee is applied to any undergraduate student who is registered for no credit hours at Auburn University in the term of graduation. Enrollment in this course is due to the staff and/or the facilities of the university being used for graduation administrative work, the clearing of deferred grades, and/or when a student is completing graduation coursework requirements at an institution other than Auburn University.

Graduation Holds
- All outstanding university obligations are to be resolved prior to the commencement ceremony.
- Auburn University Medical Clinic holds are included in university obligations.
- Diplomas will not be ordered for any graduate with a hold on their record.
- Any hold cleared after the commencement ceremony must be reported to the Registrar’s Office by the graduate to ensure diploma delivery.
- Any hold not cleared within one year after the commencement ceremony will result in the graduate requesting a Replacement Diploma.
Undergraduate students with a minimum overall grade average of 3.40 are graduated Cum Laude, a 3.60 Magna Cum Laude, and a 3.80 Summa Cum Laude.
Cum Laude - 3.4 - 3.594 (3.395 rounds) – Unadjusted Institution GPA
Magna Cum Laude - 3.6 - 3.794 (3.595 rounds) – Unadjusted Institution GPA
Summa Cum Laude - 3.8 - on up (3.795 rounds) – Unadjusted Institution GPA
- The grade average for graduation honors must be achieved on Auburn University course work.
- At least 60 hours in residence at Auburn University are required for graduation honors.
- All grades from Auburn University, including those excluded by the grade adjustment/course repeat policy, are used for determining academic honors. Honor calculations are based on the unadjusted GPA.
- Grades of S or U and non-credit courses are not used in the calculations.
- Students earning a second baccalaureate degree must earn the minimum overall grade average required for honor distinction on the additional hours completed for the second degree. Those additional hours must total at least 60 credit hours.
The official honor designation is placed on the student's diploma and transcript.
Auburn University will issue one gold honor cord per degree to any undergraduate who is potentially eligible for honors based on the honor requirements stated above. Being issued an honor cord does not represent a final certification of graduation honors on the student’s diploma or transcript. Official honor certification is finalized after the commencement ceremonies once the degree audit is complete.
Honor designations of the graduates listed in the commencement program (booklet) are for the
purposes of the program and do not represent a final certification of honors. At the time of printing, the highest potential honor a student could earn is printed in the program.

Transfer Work/Outstanding Work
Transfer Work
- Any graduating student who has transfer work that is needed to meet degree requirements at Auburn University must provide Auburn University with an official transcript that shows the completion of the transfer work.
- Transfer work must meet all requirements set by Auburn University and your college/school to receive your Auburn University diploma.

- A student has ten (10) working days after commencement to provide Auburn University with an official transcript.
- If the transfer work is not received by ten (10) working days after commencement or is not of a satisfactory nature, the student will be removed from the graduation list for the term they attempted to graduate, and the student will then need to reapply to graduate at a later semester.
- The diploma will not be ordered, nor the degree awarded to the academic record until Auburn University receives an official transcript which indicates the transfer work.
Other Outstanding Work
- Any graduating student who has outstanding work (incompletes, NR grades, etc.) that is needed to meet degree requirements at Auburn University must clear this work within ten (10) working days after commencement.
- If the outstanding work is not cleared by ten (10) working days after commencement or is not of a satisfactory nature, the student will be removed from the graduation list for the term they attempted to graduate, and the student will then need to reapply to graduate at a later semester.
- The diploma will not be ordered, nor the degree awarded to the academic record until all outstanding work is cleared and approved by the academic advisor.

• Note: The transcript will reflect both majors.
Concurrent Degrees – two diplomas (one for each degree)
Honors Information:
The university issues a gold honor cord to any undergraduate student who is potentially eligible for Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude. Being issued an honor cord does not represent a final certification of graduation honors on the student’s diploma or transcript. Official honor certification is finalized after the commencement ceremonies once the degree audit is complete.
