Roommate Selection

Students are able to participate in roommate selection during the housing application process. When filling out the housing application, students are able to complete a roommate matching profile questionnaire, search for potential roommates based off similar interests and add mutually requested roommates to their housing application.

The roommate selection portion of the application is meant to be completed at the applicant’s leisure. You will have until March to complete this part of the application, and you can log back in to your housing application at any time to add to or update your housing application.

Roommate Selection – Application Process

Special Interest Communities

Students are able to indicate their special interest community preferences during the housing application process. This is optional and not required to complete the application. Indicating a preference does not obligate or guarantee placement in a community. Students that indicate a preference will receive additional information on that community, if available. Please visit our special interest communities page to learn more.

Roommate Questionnaire

Students have the option of completing a roommate matching questionnaire during the roommate selection portion of the housing application. Students will be matched with others that have similar interests. This is optional and not required to complete the application.

Roommate Search

Students are able to search for potential roommates during the roommate selection portion of the housing application. Students are able to search for students based off similar interests (roommate questionnaire), first and last name, and student ID number. Students are able to view potential roommate profiles, message other students and request roommates through the roommate selection portal.

Roommate Confirmation

Students are able to request and confirm roommate pairs through the roommate selection portal. Roommate requests are considered pending until both students have confirmed the roommate pair. Students will receive messages in the portal when a roommate pair is confirmed or canceled.

Roommate Groups

Students are able to form roommate groups up to groups of 4 (i.e. a group of 2, a group of 3 or a group of 4).

VERY IMPORTANT! Students are only able to pull in groups of 4 into available suites in the Village or 160 Ross. The 4-person suite must be completely vacant in order for the group to be assigned to that space. If there is no availability, groups of 4 will receive an error when trying to make an assignment and must be canceled in order to proceed with room selection.

Students wanting to select a space in South Donahue, Cambridge, Quad or Hill (or a 2-person suite in Village or 160 Ross) must form groups of 2.

A roommate group must be confirmed before either student participates in room selection. If you participate in room selection then find a roommate, you will each need to choose an available space in a vacant room in order to be roommates.

Desired housing area Roommate group maximum
Village Up to 4 students in a roommate group
160 Ross Up to 4 students in a roommate group
Hill Up to 2 students in a roommate group
Quad Up to 2 students in a roommate group
Cambridge Up to 2 students in a roommate group
South Donahue Up to 2 students in a roommate group

Roommate Selection – Room Selection Process

Room Selection with a Roommate Group

Students with mutually confirmed roommates will have the option of assigning the roommate during the room selection process. Students with the earlier room selection timeslot will be able to assign their confirmed roommate group during their room selection timeslot. All students in a roommate group will receive an email to their Auburn email account when a room assignment has been made. Students can also view their room assignment and roommate information by logging into the housing student portal.

Room Assignment and Roommate Information

Students can log into their housing student portal and housing application to view updated room assignment and roommate information at any time. We encourage students without a roommate group (i.e. potluck option) to log in to the portal to view updated roommate information periodically throughout the room selection and automatic assignment process.

Students with a desired housing area in the Hill, Quad, Cambridge, or South Donahue: In order to select specific suitemates, students will need to coordinate with each other to pick the same suite, assigning the roommate pairs (roommate groups of 2) separately.

For security purposes, suitemate information is not provided in the Hill or the Quad.

During room selection, the student with the earlier timeslot will assign confirmed roommate(s) to the desired room by adding each student to their cart and clicking on the “Assign Beds” button. They will need to click “Save and Continue” to be directed to the payment page. This payment will also appear on the roommate’s student portal and needs to be paid by all roommates before May 1. Please visit our Room Selection page for additional information.

Yes. Once the assignment has been made, either roommate can move the pair into a different room following the same directions listed above. This can be done for roommate groups as well.

Please ensure that your preferred roommate(s) has completed the application and that they are not already in a roommate pair. If you are experiencing further issues, please contact our office at 334-844-4580.

The individual who initiated the request will need to go back into their application and delete the roommate pair or group.
