Auburn University to shift to remote operations for Tuesday, Jan. 21

Auburn continues to monitor the projected impact of the winter weather, including dangerously cold temperatures, on the main campus and surrounding community. Forecasts from the National Weather Service indicate that the Auburn University campus will see temperatures below freezing with gusty winds that will produce wind chills in the single digits to the lower teens through Tuesday morning.

There is a potential for some light snow accumulations through Tuesday of around 1” or less.

Out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s safety, due to the dangerously cold temperatures for Lee County, Auburn University will shift to remote operations for Tuesday, Jan 21.

  • We will follow the guidelines in the Emergency Closure Policy for essential operational personnel who must come to campus on Tuesday as directed by your supervisor.
  • All other non-faculty employees will shift to remote work for Tuesday. (Faculty – please see additional information below.)
  • Please check with your supervisor for your work status on Tuesday.

Instruction on Tuesday, Jan 21

Faculty maintain full discretion regarding how their course content will be delivered to students during this time. Faculty have multiple instructional options, including: 1) Integrating missed content into future class meetings, 2) Offering remote instruction; or 3) Utilizing university-designated make-up days (to be determined). Faculty are expected to communicate all changes in instructional plans to students as soon as possible and are asked to consider the impact of these options on students’ unique needs and to provide flexibility, where possible.

University Operations

The safety of our students, faculty and staff remains our primary priority. We will continue to assess the conditions and provide updates as more information becomes available as we are in regular communication with Lee County EMA and the National Weather Service.

Information regarding any impact to university operations on Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be communicated Tuesday afternoon.

Weather Discussion

row3

January 20 - 3:15 p.m.

Auburn University is now included in the Winter Storm Warning. As this forecast evolves, Auburn is still on that edge of accumulation for snow, while we stay locked into an extremely cold weather pattern.

Timeline remains the same in that we are likely to see flurries begin late Tuesday morning followed by afternoon snow showers that could produce between 1"-2" of snow. We do ask that you exercise caution on the roads, especially being mindful of bridges and overpasses, as they become slick first.

Temperatures tonight will fall into the 20s, with wind chill values, also known as the feels like temperatures, drop into low teens by early Tuesday morning.
