Why are Fall ceremonies being held at Jordan-Hare Stadium?

The university is hosting fall commencement ceremonies in Jordan-Hare Stadium to graduates with a one-of-a-kind experience while utilizing a venue large enough to support necessary safety protocols for graduates and guests. For those who are unable to attend the ceremony, Auburn will provide a livestream of the ceremonies at www.auburn.edu/graduationlive.

What is the Friday University Commencement?

The University Commencement includes the graduation traditions, including a commencement address and the formal conferral of all degrees. Graduates will have the opportunity to sit on Pat Dye Field, experience a flyover, fireworks and receive a commencement cord (only available Friday). For those who are unable to attend the ceremony, Auburn will provide a livestream of the ceremonies at www.auburn.edu/graduationlive.

Is attendance at the Friday Commencement required?

Yes. All fall graduates are required to attend in order to receive their name card for the Saturday ceremony.

What time do the commencement ceremonies start?

Friday, December 10 - 5:00 pm – University Commencement

What time should graduates arrive at the stadium?

Saturday graduates should arrive at the stadium no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of their ceremony. On Friday, all graduates must enter Jordan-Hare Stadium through the back parking lot located off Thach Drive. On Saturday all graduates will enter Jordan-Hare Stadium through the Harbert Family Recruiting Center.

What time can guests arrive at the stadium?

Friday, Gates open at 4:00 pm • Saturday, Gates open at 7:00 am

What time will commencement end?

Commencement will end on Friday, 6:00 pm • on Saturday, 3:00 pm.

Each school/college will have a designated start time, please refer to the schedule on the commencement website.

What gates do guests enter through?

All guests may enter the stadium through Gate 5, 6, 7, 8. Gate 9 provides accessibility access to Pat Dye Field.

Are graduates limited to the number of guests they bring?

No. Graduates may have unlimited guests in the stadium. Seating is available on a first-come, first served basis in the stands. No seating is provided on the field during Saturday ceremonies.

What safety measures are required for commencement?

Graduates and guests entering Jordan-Hare Stadium/Auburn Arena must follow the current AU policy regarding face coverings at the time of commencement. All graduates and guests must pass through metal detectors.

What happens in the event of inclement weather?

The university will follow one of the following contingency plans in the event of inclement weather:

  • Plan A: If on graduation day there is light rainfall, the ceremonies will proceed as planned. Guests will be allowed to bring umbrellas.

  • Plan B: If the rainfall is more than “light,” the ceremony will be postponed until the rain lightens enough to continue with the ceremony. New start times will be announced on the commencement website and via social media/email to graduates.

  • Plan C: If more significant weather is forecasted, commencement will transition to Sunday, December 12. If Sunday’s weather is severe, ceremonies will move to the Auburn Arena. An announcement will be sent to graduates and posted on the commencement website. All ceremonies will be livestreamed via the Auburn University Commencement website at www.auburn.edu/commencement.

Where can graduates and guests park?

The stadium deck provides access to the stadium gates 5, 6, 7, 8. The coliseum parking lot is also an available parking area.

Is tailgating permitted?

No. Tailgating is not permitted prior to any commencement.

Will concessions be sold?

Yes. Concession stands will be open inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. Guests are allowed to bring in one unopened, factory-sealed bottle of water (up to one liter in size).

What should graduates wear under their regalia?

Due to the ever-changing Alabama weather, all graduates are encouraged to wear weather appropriate, comfortable clothing under their regalia.

Can graduates wear high heels?

Please wear flats or wedges, graduates will be processing the whole length of Pat Dye field, which is uneven in spots.

What should guests wear?

Guests should dress comfortably and be prepared for Alabama temperatures. Please check the weather forecast for the day.

Can guests go onto the field during the ceremony?

Yes. Saturday guests are permitted on the Pat Dye Field.

Can guests and graduates bring an umbrella?

Yes. Guests may bring umbrellas into the stadium for commencement. Please be courteous of other guests when using umbrellas.

Will graduates be able to walk across the stage?

Yes. All graduates will walk across the stage on Saturday and have their name called. Graduates will receive a copy of The Auburn Creed folder. Guests can see their graduates name displayed on the video board.

Will Photographic Services take photos during graduation?

Yes. AU Photographic Services will take pictures of each graduate as they process across the stage. Graduates will also have their photo taken with Aubie if they choose. Ceremony photos can be downloaded for free through the commencement website approximately two weeks after commencement. Personal pictures and videos can be taken anytime during the ceremony.

Can guests take photos, flash photography, and videos during the event?

Flash photography and large, free-standing cameras are permitted. Phones and cameras are allowed.

Will anything be handed to the graduates when they cross the stage?

Graduates will receive The Auburn Creed folder.

How do graduates get their diploma?

Diplomas are mailed to graduates approximately six-eight weeks following commencement. NOTE: Fall graduates receive their diplomas approximately eight – ten weeks following commencement due to the holiday schedule. An email is sent to the graduate’s Auburn University email address once their diploma ships.

What can graduates and guests bring into Jordan-Hare Stadium?

All graduates and guests must adhere to athletic venue policies. With exception for umbrellas being allowed and clear bags are optional.

Will there be graduation programs?

Fall Commencement Programs will be available at entrance gates.

Other items to purchase or pickup?

Flowers will be available to purchase on the stadium concourse. Free commemorative commencement buttons will be available to pick up at the entrance gates. The AU Bookstore will be open commencement day.

Will the #auburngrad sign be available for photos?

The # sign will be on Samford lawn Saturday, December 11 from 8 am - 5 pm.

Anything else I need to know?

  • EMT’s will be on site during the ceremonies. For emergencies, please call 911.

  • Please dress appropriately for the weather in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

  • Smoking is not permitted inside Jordan-Hare Stadium or on university property.

  • Face coverings are required on university property at all times.
