Conversational English Program

Mojo@AU Conversational English Program is a collaboration between the Office of International Programs and Advancity to help international students improve their conversational skills and engage more comfortably on Auburn’s campus. In addition, the program is looking for fluent English-speaking students to mentor and engage with international students while getting paid to help them improve their language proficiency.

Our goal for this program is to help our international students become more confident in their English-speaking skills, and thereby more comfortable engaging with campus life, while also increasing our domestic students’ interaction with the international student population.

International Students: Learner

Auburn University international students interested in taking advantage of this service can register for free and schedule their peer-to-peer conversational English practice in 30-minute increments with a cap of 90 minutes per session.

Online Session Tips

  • Browser – Download Google Chrome and only use this browser.
  • Clarity – Should you have any problems with the clarity of your video session, wait a minute and then tell your mentor if it does not improve. You can also "refresh the page" using the refresh button on your browser.
  • Close Other Video Apps – Please close any other video chat application (e.g. Skype or Zoom) during sessions.
  • Device – Advancity requires that you use your laptop. No iPhones or iPads.
  • Help – For help, visit the Advancity website and locate a pink Help button for Customer Service. You can also email Advancity at
  • Listening – Use headphones. The recording will be much clearer if you want to review your session at a later time.
  • Session Requests – Session requests need to be made at least 24 hours prior to the requested session time.
  • Session Cancellations – Should you need to cancel a session, please give Advancity a minimum 12 hour notice.
  • Surroundings – Find a quiet place on campus or apartment with good Wi-Fi.

Native English Speakers: Mentor

Native English-speaking students interested in helping international students become more language proficient can mentor with Advancity and earn up to $14 an hour on their own schedule while sharing their native culture and interests with their peers. Mentoring with Advancity also provides students with the opportunity to build their resume and global competencies, making them more marketable to prospective employers.

MojoCareer Interview Prep

For a limited time, select students who sign up for the Mojo@AU program have the opportunity to utilize this resource for free! The offer is limited on a first come - first served basis!

The MojoCareer package will provide students with specific tools and practice to prepare for future interviews. The program is designed to provide specific feedback on students’ introduction and elevator pitch, detailed suggestions for answering key questions with confidence and authenticity, and an overall assessment of interview readiness. The MojoCareer mentors will get to know each student personally, and track their progress by helping them craft memorable answers to key questions. Students will get practice interviewing, which will help continuously improve their fluency.
