“I am proud that our college significantly contributes to transformative research with impressive funding through major agencies, collaborations and foundations,” said Edward Thomas Jr., associate dean for research and graduate studies. “Research has soared from $12 million in 2016 to just over $18 million in 2020.”

The College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) generated $18.2 million in extramural funding in fiscal year 2020 (FY2020).

The National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, NASA, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are just a few of the major funding agencies that awarded COSAM researchers for their work.

“This information represents all of the COSAM contracts and grants that received additional funding during FY2020,” Thomas added. “Because of the different methods that our sponsors use to make awards, this increase in funding is also forward-looking and suggests a there is a bright future for continued growth.”

The college consists of five departments: biological sciences, chemistry and biochemistry, geosciences, mathematics and statistics, and physics.

“This infographic gives viewers a glimpse into the dedication COSAM faculty, staff and students invest in our college,” Thomas explained.
