Following are minutes taken Tuesday, September 12, 2000 during BSC 7100 Executive Issues in Project Management.  The discussion was in preparation for a question and answer session with Brent Salter regarding the class assignment to be held during class on Thursday, September 14, 2000. 

The primary focus of the discussion was to identify possible elements for the SWOT Analysis portion of the assignment. Following are lists of suggestions made by members of the class on each point:

 

Strengths

• Experienced and competent carpenters
• Design capability
• Reputation and concern for high quality
• Technologically advanced
• Vertical integration
• Geographic location
• No adversarial relationship with architect
• Delivery system
• Level of self performed work
• Loyalty/relationship with labor force

 

Weaknesses

• Potential mismatch between quality offered & expected
• Non-mobile workforce
• Overhead (facilities & employees)
• Young/inexperienced
• Management structure
• No one else can use the software
• Lack of exposure to broader markets

 

Opportunities

• Explore other markets (lake, commercial, etc...)
• Expand to nearby residential markets
• Capture more of local market
• Create better educated clientele
• Sell materials to other builders
• Sell materials via internet
• Use carpenters to full potential/better utilize skills
• Enhance product/business profile
• Market strategy to other homebuilders
• Consulting
• Franchise
• Speculative land purchase/building
