The Biomechanics Program in the School of Kinesiology at Auburn University is an active program with three primary areas of research.
Dr. Weimar, the Director of the Sport Biomechanics Laboratory, focuses primarily on the lower extremity, with particular attention on gait and footwear.
Dr. Oliver, Director of the Sports Medicine and Movement Laboratory, focuses primarily on the upper extremity with particular concern paid to the mechanics of throwing and injury prevention.
Dr. Liu, Director of the Rehabilitation Biomechanics Laboratory, concentrates on the interaction of Biomechanics and Motor Control as it pertains to rehabilitation.
The program has alumni working as professionals in academia as well as the private sector. In addition to the research efforts the program is integrally involved with several sports teams, professional athletes, Olympians, recreational athletes and everyday movers. By providing movement/mechanical analyses we work to improve effectiveness and efficiency of movement and performance.

Laboratory of Sports Medicine
and Movement:
Mariam Abu-Aim
As an international student, Maria obtained her bachelor’s degree in
Physical Education and her master’s degree in Sport Science /Movement
Science from Yarmouk University, located in Jordan Kingdom. Currently,
she is a Kinesiology doctoral student and working in the Sports Medicine
and Movement Lab at Auburn University. Maria’s research interests are
geared toward optimizing sport performance and injury prevention for
athletes of all ages from a variety of sports, including: tennis,
handball, basketball, baseball and swimming.
Lisa Henning
Lisa Henning is a Masters student in the Exercise Science program here
at Auburn University. She is originally from Clarksville, Tennessee and
completed her undergraduate study in Biology at Austin Peay State
University. She is currently part of the Laboratory of Sports Medicine &
Movement. Her research interests include injury prevention and
biomechanical analyses of sports such as soccer, ice hockey, lacrosse,
baseball, softball, and team handball. She plans to start her PhD in the
spring, and also plans to attend Physical Therapy school after
graduating from Auburn. Her future career goals are to work in both
clinical and research settings with professional soccer or hockey
players.
Taylor Holt
Taylor is originally from Dallas, Texas. He completed his undergraduate
degree in Exercise Science and Kinesiology at the University of
Arkansas. Currently, Taylor is a Kinesiology doctoral student studying
Sport Biomechanics and working in the Laboratory of Sports Medicine &
Movement. His research interests include investigating injury
mechanisms, and developing and implementing training protocols for
injury prevention and performance optimization in athletes of all ages
from a wide variety of sports including: baseball, softball, hockey,
golf, soccer, and lacrosse. After graduation, Taylor plans to work as a
biomechanist in the sports industry.
Hillary Plummer
Hillary is from Snellville, Georgia and completed an Associate's degree
in Exercise Science at Darton College where she also played softball for
two years. She finished her undergraduate studies at Georgia College &
State University majoring in Exercise Science. In 2011, she earned a
Master's of Athletic Training degree from the University of Arkansas.
Previously Hillary has worked as an athletic trainer at Shiloh Christian
School (Springdale, AR) and Beulah High School (Valley, AL). Currently,
Hillary is a doctoral student studying Sport Biomechanics and a graduate
teaching assistant in the School of Kinesiology. Hillary’s research
interests include investigating upper extremity injury mechanisms as
well as developing and implementing training protocols for injury
prevention and performance optimization in athletes. After graduation,
she plans to work as a biomechanist in a clinical research setting.
Corey Smith
Corey is originally from Athens, Alabama. He received his undergraduate
degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University. Currently, Corey is a
I am a master’s in the School of Kinesiology, concentrating in Sport
Biomechanics, and volunteering in the Laboratory of Sports Medicine and
Movement. Corey’s research interests include studying the mechanics of
the upper extremity, and developing injury prevention protocols to
optimize performance for athletes in sports, such as lacrosse, baseball
and tennis. After graduation, Corey plans on going into sport
biomechanics research and/or furthering my education in a doctoral
program. Outside the lab, he is a competitive tennis player; enjoys
mountain biking, and doing anything outdoors.
