Students:

During the latter portion of class last night, we reviewed how to "mount the server" on the Gateway and the Macintosh computers.  We did this so that you would be able to save large files on the server when you use the computers at the front of the LRC where the scanners and the digital camera are (or computers anywhere on campus) although there are no Zip drives there. You would also be able to go to a computer with a Zip drive in the lab, mount the server, and copy the file from the server to the Zip.  Here are the instructions.

ON THE MACINTOSH
Apple menu (top left of desktop) -> Chooser
Click Apple Share, LRC LABS, LRC New, OK
Log on as name = (see your email for name) password = (see your email for password)  Click OK
Click Aster (but not the little square) Click OK
Aster icon appears on the desktop

ON THE GATEWAY
Start menu -> Shut Down
Click circle by "Close all programs and log on as a different user"
Click "Yes"
Look for Aster (Drive K:/) in Network Neighborhood

We also went over how to use the digital camera:
ON THE MACINTOSH
Make sure camera is connected to computer and power is turned on
Apple menu (top left of desktop) -> Control Panels -> QuickTake Image Access
Connect to Camera
Camera icon appears on Desktop
Double-click the camera icon to see files
Double-click on a file to see it in the PhotoFlash program
In PhotoFlash go to File menu ->Save As ->JPEG (Excellent)
Save file either on your disk or on Aster in your folder.  The file name MUST end with .jpg

We also made sure that when we used either the PC or the Macintosh scanner, that the file scanned was saved as a .jpg file
