College and Career Research Project

 

 

1.     Research Paper Requirements

A.     A minimum of ten pages typed is required excluding the cover page for the project.

B.     The layout for this project will be one-inch margins top, bottom, left and right with 1 ½” line spacing.

C.     The paper will be typed in New Times Roman, 12pt font size using black font color only.

D.     Refrain from bolding the entire paper. Use the bold option to highlight selected text only.

E.      Each page should be numbered with your last name and page number appearing in the upper right hand margin of your pages. Your name and page number should appear on each page after the cover page. The cover page must NOT have your last name or page number in the upper right corner of this page.

F.      All questions must be included and should accompany the answers.

G.     All answers to the questions must be answered in complete sentence form.

H.     If there are any questions about this assignment students should ask the instructor immediately.

I.        Each major topic should begin on a separate page. For example each occupation and each college and/or university will begin on a new page. Sub headings like student body and entrance requirements will and may be on the same page.

 

2.     Cover Page

A.     The cover page will include the name of your research paper centered in 28 pt font size.

B.     Followed by your name centered in 20pt font size

C.     Name of the class centered in 14pt font size.

D.     Instructor’s name centered in 14pt font size.

E.      Followed by your class period centered in 14pt font size 

F.      Followed by the date centered, the date you turn in your project in 14pt font size.

G.       Concerning the page numbering on the cover page. There will be no name and page number on the cover page in the header.

 

3.     Reference page.

A.     Each research paper must have a reference page.

B.     The reference page will be the last page of your paper unless you have additional information you would like to convey to me. If so then the reference page will precede the additional information.

C.     Students must have a minimum of four references for the student’s information for the research paper. 

D.     The heading for this page should read References and should include alphabetically in order, any references used in research for this paper and should be in 16 pt .

E.      This page should be located after you second college choice.

 

 

4.     Additional requested information (Pages)

Any requested information or additional pages should be included after the reference page.

 

5.         Research Paper order of items are as follows;

A.     Cover page

B.     Primary occupation

C.     Secondary or backup occupation

D.     Primary or first choice college or university

E.      Second choice college or university or backup

F.      Reference page

G.     Additional information


 

   Questions to be answered in The Research Paper

 

All questions will be answered in full sentence format! All answers are to be in bold font or underlined. No exceptions.

 

1.     Occupation/Career

As a sub heading list the name of your occupation. The occupation should be centered in 16 pt. You may use any website or any information as long as you document the information that you used to obtain answers to the following questions.

 

H.     Why did you choose your chosen occupation/career, the career you want to do for the rest of your life?

I.        Give a brief description of what your job/occupation/career is about.

J.       Give a brief description of the typical tasks that your occupation may do.

K.     Briefly list the necessary education, training and work experience required for your occupation

L.      Briefly list the average national earnings for your chosen occupation. Yearly, monthly, and hourly

M.    List briefly the National Employment and Outlook through the year 2008 for your chosen occupation or career.

N.     List any military careers and their earnings for your occupation.

O.     List the work hours and travel required for your chosen occupation

 

2.      General Information about your College or University

As a sub heading list the name of your College or university. The college or university should be centered in 16 pt.

You may use any website or any information as long as you document the information to obtain answers to the following questions.

 

P.      What is the name of the college or university?

Q.     Why did you choose this college or university?

R.     Location

i.                     Where is it located? City and state

ii.                   Include a Yahoo map or Rand McNally Map. Use BrewTech High

             School’s address as the starting point and the address of your

             college or university as the destination. BrewTech’s address is as

             follows;  4405 Brewbaker Drive Montgomery, Al 36116. Include a map,

             the driving distance and total hours needed to drive from BrewTech to

             your chosen college or university.           

iii.                  What is the closest large city to your university or college?

iv.                 If your college is more than 300 miles from Montgomery you must find

             air transportation. Meaning you have to find how much a ticket will cost

             from you college town to Montgomery. 

v.                   How large is the campus? Acres and/or square miles?

vi.                 Does the campus easily lend itself or accommodate student parking

            and to students who commute to school? In other words are there in

            your opinion enough parking for everyone.

vii.                Please include the college or university’s complete mailing address.

viii.              Include the college or university’s website address.

S.      How many students attend the college or university you plan to attend?

T.      How many students make up a typical freshman class each year?

U.     What percentage of students who enroll at the college or university

graduate?

 

4.       Your Degree

 

A. What do you plan on majoring in while in college and why?

B.   Are you planning to take pre-law, or pre-med?

C.   Does the college or university offer the degreed program in which you are

interested in pursuing?

D.  If not what are you plans? Are you still going to attend this college or

university but pick another major or degree?

E.   What are the minimum required hours to graduate in your degree field?

F.   List any other requirement to graduate. Example one college level foreign language, etc.

G.   What are the recommended or required courses or classes for incoming

freshmen during their first year at the college or university? Please List!

 

5.         Applying to the college or university      

 

A.  How soon must one start applying to the college or university to be

considered for the fall semester?

B.   Can you apply online?

C.   If so list the web page address.

 

6.            Entrance Requirements

 

A.  What are the entrance requirements for the college or university? 

B.   What is included; high school grades, essays, references and any other

       requirements that the school might need to be considered for admissions.

C   What are the minimum SAT or ACT scores for you college or university.

 

D.  What are the requirements for remaining at the college or university?

Example: minimum Grade Point Average (GPA).

 

7.        Graduate school, Law or medical school

  

A.  Do you want to get a post - graduate degree? If so why?

B.   Does your college or university offer a post –graduate degree program

      in the field that you are interested in? If so list all requirements for admission to

      the school’s graduate school.      

C.   If the college or university does not offer a post-graduate degree in the

      field that you are interested in. Which college or university interests you

      and offers graduate work, law degree or medical degree that you are

      interested in?

D.  Why did you choose this graduate school, law school, or medical school?

 

8.      College Cost

 

A.     How much is tuition per semester and per year? Include the cost of out-

            of-state tuition, the costs of room and board, books, lab fees and any other

            essentials. Such as laundry services, ISP services, extracurricular fees,

            football tickets, etc    

B.     How much is the total cost to attend the college or university for a

year?

C.     For four years?         

D.     Does the college or university require freshman students to live on campus 

            during their freshman year.

E.      Does the college or university allow freshman to drive and/or park on

            campus?

 

9.      Financial Aid

 

A.     Is there financial aid available at your chosen institution of higher learning?

B.     If so what types of financial aid are being offered? 

C.     Does the college or university offer scholarships in the field or degreed

            program you are interested in?

D.     Can you apply online?

E.      If so include the web page address.

F.      Does the college or university offer general scholarships?

G.     What is the amount of the average scholarship offered?

H.     How soon does one need to apply for financial aid each year?

 

10.                          Extracurricular Activities

 

A.  If planning on competing in college sports, what are the requirements to

play college sports at the college or university?

B.   Does the college or university offer scholarships in the sport you want to
