Greetings!
Ecology is a science, and thus
like all fields in science has its foundation in
mathematics. It is because of my belief that math plays such
an important role in ecology that I would define myself
first as a "quantitative ecologist". My strengths include
such areas as analytical and simulation modeling, computer
programming, and of course statistics.
As for my
research, I am broadly interested in predator-prey
interactions and population dynamics. I am especially
interested in how knowledge in such fields can be used in
conservation, and much of my research deals with examining
factors that may improve the likelihood of success in
conservation efforts. My current research (with
Dr. Dennis Murray at Trent University), involves analyzing the
20 years of habitat
and demographic data on red wolves that has been collected
as part of the
red wolf
reintroduction program
in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I've
recently agreed to take part in similar research with
Mexican wolves.
