Swaying Sedge

Swaying Sedge

by David B. Swanger

I stand in the warm of sunshine
And throw the cast-net of my gaze
Upon wide fields of swaying sedge...
Transfixed, I ponder nature's ways.

Pond'ring, down through essence I go
To test the color and touch the form
From gen'ral to particular
Go I in great deductive storm.

Down, down, down, through fibre and cell
To level of pulsing molec'le -
Plung I through swirl and surge and sweep
Of elemental particle.

Onward I go to depths immense
As I seek the infinite small
And then... A light, a smile, a hand!
Transfixed, I meet the All-In-All.

For one brief time I kneel in awe
Then back to mortal's place I run
To ponder fields of swaying sedge
That fill my gaze in shine of sun.
