Boogie-talk Info Page

Boogie-talk is a mailing list devoted to guitars, guitar
amplifiers, guitar effects, guitar speakers, guitar pickups,
guitar technique and other
guitar-related information. We also sometimes talk
about basses, bass amps, etc., recording, cars, philosophy and
marriage, but usually we do the guitar thing.

The first boogie-talk was created by Graham Spice on
liberty.uc.wlu.edu. The original boogie-talk was created
as a forum to discuss Mesa-Boogie equipment, but eventually
it evolved into a place where nearly all guitar topics
were/are discussed. This original boogie-talk list still
exists, although there appears to be no one at the helm.
After a series of "blackouts" where the list went down
for a few days for no discernible reason, I decided to
create a "backup" boogie-talk list. This was not a power
play on my part, I just wanted a semi-reliable list for
my daily fix of guitar info. As of now, it appears that
the majority of boogie-talk users are using the backup
list, so I guess it is now the "main" list, for now anyway.

The list is distributed via majordomo software on a
Sun Sparcstation at Auburn University. Majordomo is free
software and you get what you pay for. It does
work and the good outweighs the bad, so for now we will continue
to use it.

Users can subscribe and unsubscribe (along with other functions)
from boogie-talk via email. All commands are sent to majordomo@mail.auburn.edu.
I get asked the same questions regularly, so I decided to put some
of the most requested information on this page.

Misc Thoughts

All commands should be on one line and not wrapped to two lines.
If your command gets wrapped to two lines, the list computer will
think it is two commands and will probably not do what you want.
Some broken mail systems (like Groupwise, for example) find ingenious
ways to wrap your commands for you, so be careful.

Spell the commands correctly. Subscribe is not subscibe, susribe and
so on. The software is very picky.

Finally

If all else fails, I'm here for you at
swangdb@mail.auburn.edu.
I should note that
managing boogie-talk normally takes a backseat to "real" work
here, but if you send me a message, I'll usually get back to you
fairly soon. Unless you send me a message at night...or on the
weekend...or if I'm out of town...or...
