Listserv Info For AU-SPORTS Users

Au-sports is a mailing list devoted to sports at Auburn University.
The list is distributed via majordomo software on a
Sun computer. Majordomo is free software and you get what you
pay for. It does
work and the good outweighs the bad, so for now we will continue
to use it.

Users can subscribe and unsubscribe (along with other functions)
from au-sports via email. All commands are sent to majordomo@auburn.edu.
I get asked the same questions regularly, so I decided to put some
of the most requested information on this page.

Digests

If you are a subscriber to au-sports and would like to
receive one message per day containing all of the au-sports
messages from the previous day, do the following:

Send an email message to majordomo@auburn.edu

Leave the Subject: line blank

Type the message

unsubscribe au-sports
subscribe au-sports-digest

If you are already in digest mode and you would like to
go back to non-digest mode, do the following:

Send an email message to majordomo@auburn.edu

Leave the Subject: line blank

Type the message

unsubscribe au-sports-digest
subscribe au-sports

Unlike with listproc, I do not know of a way to get
partials digests with majordomo. However, you can always
read semi-current messages on the Au-Sports web page at:

If you know your address is about to change, please unsubscribe
from your old address and resubscribe from your new address.

Misc Thoughts

All commands should be on one line and not wrapped to two lines.
If your command gets wrapped to two lines, the list computer will
think it is two commands and will probably not do what you want.
Some mail systems (like Groupwise, for example) find ingenious
ways to wrap your commands for you, so be careful.

Spell the commands correctly. Subscribe is not subscibe, susribe and
so on. The software is very picky.

Also, I receive a lot of error messages every day from the list.
If your email inbox gets filled up, then all further au-sports
messages will be rejected by your system and sent to me. I don't
particularly like receiving dozens (hundreds) of bounced messages
every day, so my request is, CHECK YOUR MAIL REGULARLY (don't
shout, Dave). I have a tendency to unsubscribe users whose
mail bounces for more than a few.
On a busy day, au-sports receives well over
100 messages. If several subscribers have full mailboxes, then
I receive several hundred bounced messages. This is a major pain
for me. So please, check your mail.

Finally

If all else fails, I'm here for you at
swangdb@auburn.edu.
I should note that
managing au-sports normally takes a backseat to "real" work
here, but if you send me a message, I'll usually get back to you
fairly soon. Unless you send me a message at night...or on the
weekend...or if I'm out of town...or...
