Dr. Striegler received her Diploma in Chemistry (1993) from the University of Ulm, Germany, and her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (1995) from the same University. Her doctoral research under the supervision of Ernst Haslinger focused on the extraction and structural characterization of natural products from wood-destroying fungi.
Subsequently, she worked in the group of Gerhard Maas at the University of Ulm on stereoselective reductions using pinacol borane. She moved to California in 1996 to work in the group of Frances H.Arnold at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA, on template polymerization for biomolecule sensing. In 1998, she returned to the University of Ulm, where she worked as a Habilitandin in the Division of Inorganic Chemistry under the mentoring of Bernhard Rieger. She received the venia legendi in Inorganic Chemistry and the title of Privatdozentin in 2003.
Dr. Striegler was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Auburn University in January 2004 and received tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in January 2009.
