Welcome to our Home Page!

We're located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, serving members from all over Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia.  Membership is open to anyone age 21 years and under who has an interest in horses.  Our club is active in the Midsouth Region of the United States Pony Club (USPC).  Through regular meetings, both mounted and unmounted, members are taught vital skills of safe horse management and English riding.  Riding skills are primarily focused towards 3-day eventing, which includes dressage, cross-country, and stadium phases.  Other competition opportunities in Pony Club exist in tetrathalon, games, polocrosse, show jumping, and dressage.

We provide opportunities such as summer camps, ratings, clinics, shows, "Quiz," and "Rally" to our members who wish to participate.  Members are encouraged to learn at their own pace and progress through the various levels of ratings.  All aspects of the club are non-profit and are organized by the parents, members, and sponsors.  Ownership of a horse is not required, but access to one is recommended.

·       CPC Summer Camp- May 29-June 3

·         Upper Level Prep- June 1,2

Term of the month:

Gallop

Galloping is one of the most fun experiences on a horse.  It is characterized by a quick four-beat gait, with speeds reaching up to 30 miles per hour!  We pony-clubbers use galloping during the cross-country phase between fences.  These events are usually timed, so a quick pace at upper levels is a necessity.  At lower levels (novice and below), a trot, canter, or even a walk between fences is perfectly acceptable.

When riding the gallop, a “galloping position” is used to balance and get off the horse’s back.  The rider’s legs should be in a more forward position than normal, with their seat out of the saddle, and upper body inclined forward.  Grabbing a hunk of mane or resting one’s hands on the crest is acceptable and encouraged.  Occasional half-halts keep the horse balanced and in tune with the rider.  The use of a helmet and cross-country vest is required.
