PRE-CALCULUS ALGEBRA (3). Pr., high school geometry, second year algebra. Algebra of functions including polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions. Systems of equations and inequalities, quadratic inequalities, the binomial theorem.

Objectives:

To develop student mathematical and analytic skills in algebra. To master algebraic techniques and develop an understanding of functions.

Equations and Inequalities [7 days]

Equations; Quadratic Equations; Complex Numbers; Other Types of Equations; Inequalities; More on Inequalities.

Functions and Graphs [6 days]

Rectangular Coordinates; Graphs of Equations; Lines; Definition of Function, Graphs of Functions; Quadratic Function, Operations on Functions, Inverse Functions.

Polynomial and Rational Functions [8 days]

Polynomial Functions of Degree Greater than 2; Properties of Division; Zeros of Polynomials (Fundamental Theorem of Algebra); Complex and Rational Zeros of Polynomials, Rational Functions.

Exponential and Logarithmic Functions [8 days]

Exponential Functions; Natural Exponential Function; Logarithmic Functions; Properties of Logarithms; Exponential and Logarithmic Equations.

Systems of Equations and Inequalities [7 days]

Systems of Equations; Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables; Systems of Linear Equations in more than two Variables; Systems of Inequalities & Linear Programming.

Mathematical Induction [4 days]

Mathematical Induction ; The Binomial Theorem.
