Syllabus: SM 101 Concepts of Science @ 13:00 MTHF + lab

Office hours: I will set aside 11:00-12:00 as hours for SM 101 students, other times are available by appointment.

Outline of course: The table of contents of the text is essentially an outline of the course. We will cover the entire textbook.

Grading: Your final grade will be calculated as follows(standard 10 point scale: 90-100=A, 80-90=B, etc.):

Three hour Exams (at 16% each)...48%

Final Exam ......................32%

Recitation/Lab ..................20%

Note that attendance at your recitation lab section is mandatory. In order to pass the course you must pass the recitation portion of the course (with 60% or higher). You will have graded assignments in your recitation labs and quizzes (which. may or may not be announced). Only officially recognized and documented excuses are accepted for missing any labs or exams and the work missed must be made up.

Attendance:

Attendance at the lectures is expected, if a lecture is missed you are still responsible for the material presented. Material not in the textbook will be presented in the class. There are exercises in the text that will be assigned regularly. Students are expected to be able to do these exercises and examples will be presented during lectures. Similar problems are likely to be asked on the exams. Quizzes may or may not be given in the lecture class (announced or unannounced); lecture quiz scores will be used to enhance student grades.

Test 2: May 1

Test 3: May 19

Final Exam: as scheduled by the University.
