Your grade in this class will be based on 3 one hour exams given in class, a final exam, and in class short quizzes. Quizzes will be given most Fridays. The exams will be given on the following dates:
Your average in the course will be computed as follows:
The average of the short quizzes will count 10%. Each exam will be
assigned a weight of 22.5% and the final 2 x 22.5%. The average will
be computed after the lowest of these 22.5%s has been dropped. For
example, if one of your "in class" exams is your lowest grade, it
will be dropped and your final will count 45%, the average of your
other two exams will count 45%, and the quizzes 10%. If your final is
your lowest grade, it will count only 22.5% with the "in class" exams
making up 67.5% and the quizzes 10%. Make-up quizzes will not be
given. Students who have missed a quiz and have a valid excuse will
have the average of their other quizzes count 10%. Students with
special needs during lecture and/or exams should see me early in the
semester.
My office is room 376 in the Chemistry building. Please feel free
to come and talk to me about problems you may be having with the
course. This semester, my office hours will be from 1-3 PM on
Wednesdays. I shall conduct informal help sessions at mutually
agreeable times preceding exams. I also encourage you to ask
questions during my lectures. Note that the final exam is scheduled
for Wednesday, May 9 at 11 AM. Please plan accordingly the final will
be only be given on that date. If you know now that you have a
conflict, I suggest that you drop the course.
