CH208 Lecture 4/4/96
This is an experiment in which structures were drawn in class in real
time and later put on the internet.
1. Direct alkylation of Carbonyl Compounds:
a. A specific example
b. Alkylation of enolates:
2. The Aldol Condensation. The simplest example is acetaldehyde:
To write the products of the aldol condensation, simply draw a bond between
the alpha carbon of one molecule to the carbonyl carbon of the other molecule.
Convert this carbonyl to an OH.
