I think this resolution was needed, and I’m glad it got the full supoort of the Senate. I belive the Trans-Loc system will do wonders for the Tiger Transit system, as well as Auburn University as a whole. From what I saw on the N.C. State website, the system exceeded my expectations and quite frankly looks awesome!

I think the GPS locators for the Tiger-Transit buses would be a wonderful idea. As long as it’s publicized and it’s easy to locate the webpage that tracks the buses, I believe it will be an instant hit. Hopefully we’ll get it!

I just checked out the NC St webpage–fantastic system. My hat off to anyone involved in finding such a successful system. This would be amazing for Auburn!! Students many times shy away from riding transit because they aren’t sure if a bus is near by and don’t want to be late for class. Several other things that could ease the parking issues–we need more buses once this system is in place. I strongly feel that a successful system is going to rely heavily on an abundance of buses. Also, I really wish we had transit buses running on the weekends. Some students living on campus do not have cars and this would help them to have some sense of mobility. It would also get some cars off the road and help with traffic. I would much rather have students who are tired from studying, or been drinking, riding on transit, than putting their life in their own hands by getting behind the wheel of a car. Basically an increase in flexibility of hours for transit, might deter some poor decision making by students, by offering alternatives. Finally, I would like to see transit extend its services to students further away, like Tigertown, the Mall, Walmart, etc… Many times transit is already passing by these locations—building in a stop might deter students from driving by offering an alternative. These services would allow some students to leave their cars at their parents homes completely. I think many students feel like they have to have a car and park it on campus because they will have no means to get around campus and the city of Auburn.
Again, all of these changes need to be publicized and their needs to be a devoted weblink for Tiger Transit on the student webpage. Transit awareness needs to be increased across campus. Many students never give Transit a chance because of many of the sterotypes that go along with it (being late, not enough stops, overcrowded, uncomfortable, no air condition, slow, etc…) A way to provide for all of these new services might be to sell ads in and on the buses to local businesses. Also, adding local radio stations on buses might be useful in getting some money from local radio stations. Thanks for all of your hardwork. I look forward to your advancements in this program.

why is there an airport line??? We don’t have domestic flights? It’s not like students are flying all over the place. is this merely for students in aviation, to have a way to go fly?

I no longer ride the Transit, but it was definitely a help when I did use it.
Also, I’m sure that the Trans-Loc system will help out, but I feel that this may be covering (not intentionally) the problems with the current system. That includes the problems with C Zone parking. How will knowing WHERE a Transit bus is affect the NUMBER of students in C Zone?
Another problem is the lack of buses and over-crowding. What the Trans-Loc system will do is effectively get all of the students to show up just before the Transit arrives at its stops. That is, over-crowding will still exist. It may be even worse since there will be a larger influx of students in a shorter amount of time.
These problems can easily solved (though not financially) with more buses. Even that’s done, Trans-Loc will be at its most effective.
…
But again, the system is definitely a move in the right direction.
