According to the Campus Connection:“The Auburn University College of Architecture, Design & Construction (CADC) will hold its annual Pumpkin Carve Friday, Oct. 27, in the courtyard at Dudley Hall on the AU campus. The evening kicks off with face painting for kids and food beginning at 5 p.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for $1.00 each. A bake sale and chili will also be available. The children’s costume contest will begin at 6 p.m. Students from the CADC will begin carving pumpkins at 9 a.m. Friday and will end at 5 p.m., with the judging beginning at 6:30 p.m. Area businesses can purchase a pumpkin to be carved by a student and delivered for display on Saturday. Pumpkins are $5, with all money going to CADC student organizations.”

Hello and thank you for visiting SGA Soundoff.  You’re probably wondering why the categories and calendar are hidden at the bottom of the page.  I am too!  I apologize for the current layout mishap. We are aware of the problem with the AU server and we’re doing our best to remedy it as soon as possible.  Thank you for your time!

We formed a committee this past summer to review the event that has been known as the “Holiday Tree Lighting.”  That committee took its work seriously and generated a report that includes a number of recommendations.

The recommendations were made after holding two open forums and receiving correspondence from concerned parties.  The overall consensus suggests that some recognition needs to be given to the fact that there is a Christmas tree being lit during the event.  This idea was consistent across the multiple individuals that comprised various religious views and took the opportunity to speak at the open forum.  It was the finding of the committee that this recognition should be respected.  As a result, the event will include “The Lighting of the Christmas tree.”

The committee also discussed the name of the event.  After considering all of the feedback and ideas for the name of the event the committee concluded that the name should be “A Holiday Celebration.”  I support the committee’s recommendation.  As well as having a new name, the event will also have new activities that will enhance the experience for all that are participating.

I would like to thank the members of the committee in taking on this task.  What was asked of them was both time consuming and difficult to do.  I appreciate their consultation during this decision making process

The Beat Bama Food Drive kicked off yesterday in the Foy Ballroom at 5 p.m.  Visitors including Mayor Ham, Aubie and the AU Cheerleaders entertained a capacity crowd as the food drive began.  Miss Auburn handed out several door prizes to the guests including signed memorabilia from Tommy Tuberville.

Instead of the traditional meetings that SGA holds each Monday, cabinet and senate will be meeting together at the Jule Collins Smith Museum tonight.  This joint meeting is part of an effort to create a more unified SGA.  The venue for this meeting was chosen to highlight the College of Architecture, Design and Construction’s Rural Studio exhibit that is currently on display at the museum. 

What are your thoughts on this joint meeting? 

If your anything like me or the other numerous Auburn students struggling with the stressful monotony of the fall semester, then I have a question for you. Would you like a fall break? On October 19 students at Alabama will begin three days of vacation known as fall break. In return they give up two days of Thanksgiving vacation. This gives them a much needed break after the midterm period to relax and de-stress. Students there seem more than ok with trading the two days of Thanksgiving for this break. Purpose:

The primary purpose of this organization is to allow students of Auburn University to voice members’ belief that abortion is morally and socially unacceptable and causes physical, emotional, and spiritual harm to women and others involved in the abortion decision. Also, Auburn Students for Life allows students to promote the pro-life cause and well-being of the unborn, and by doing so, recruit others to join the pro-life cause so that acts of abortion can be avoided and other options can be made to those who are considering an abortion. These goals will be achieved trough a number of activities including trips to the March for Life in Washington, D.C., speakers, peaceful activism, optional prayer meetings, etc.

    Purpose:
The primary purpose of this organization is to increase the knowledge and appreciation for Italian culture and language in general, thus to stimulate and encourage the interest and education of Italian to the students of Auburn University.  It will consolidate the relations among students of such institution and give them a common background and forum.

These goals shall be achieved through meetings and special events that will promote the Italian culture such as fashion shows, soccer games, cooking activities, film festivals, and dances (la discoteca).

AUABJ exists to unite students who support the interests of young Black journalists and communication scholars in the Department of Communications and Journalism at Auburn University. 

Some of their goals are to serve as a professional student organization where members will learn about job opportunities, scholarships and internships, and also to promote the value of practical training in the area of journalism through internships or involvement in media organizations.  They will establish relationships with the Birmingham Associations of Black Journalists, the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists, and others.
