Wisconsin Reunion

September 29-30, 2001

UW Animal Sciences building and Stock Pavilion. The
Stock Pavilion was our "home" until moving into the
current building in 1972.

On Saturday of our graduate student alumni weekend, Wisconsin played its make-up football game rescheduled from the week of September 11. The Wisconsin Agriculture and Life Sciences Alumni Association (WALSAA) held their annual "Fire Up" in the Stock Pavilion prior to the game. Below left, Steve Schmidt and Craig Cooper catch up on old times with Dr. Grummer. Below right, Ben and Gerry Weiss reminisce.
Gerry Weiss worked hard and persistently to get us all together for the weekend. Steve hadn't seen Craig Cooper since visiting him at his Ada, Oklahoma, ranch too many years ago.

Ben was all tuckered out after after going to "Fire Up" and the football game, but Cynthia was still "fired up" and ready to go!

On Sunday afternoon, Steve and Margaret walked from the Animal Sciences building, leisurely through the Allen Centennial Grardens, over observatory hill where we had a beautiful view of Lake Mendota with its sail boats, past Bascom Hall, down to the Union and boat docks, and returned along the lake path. Many things have changed, but the view still is spendid.
Bascom, the main administration building. View looking up State Street toward the capitol from the bottom of Bascom Hill.
Statue of a mother and child at the entrance to the Elvehjem Art Museum.
The old red gym has recently been declared an historical site. Remember the long lines when we used to do manual registration? Looking across the Union terrace from near the Rathskeller in the Union.
The Union terrace is a favorite "hang out" for students, faculty and visitors to campus. On this beautiful Sunday afternoon students, along with many families with young children, enjoy leisure time together.
Sailboats anchored near the Union terrace. Fireplace in the Union's Rathskeller
The UW Hoofers Sailing Club boathouse is next to the Union. Members simply take a sail from a cubby hole, put their sailing license on a clip, launch a sailboat, and enjoy the breezes that sweep across Lake Mendota. Views shuch as this brought back wonderful memories of the times Margaret and Steve spent sailing during our graduate student days.
Dock sailboats. On a breezy evening, every sailboat will be in the water with people waiting on the dock for one to return. There is a two-hour time limit when people are waiting. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit back to the campus and the opportunity to renew acquaintances with friends and faculty.
On Wisconsin!
