Waterbeds and Accessories - or "Wasserbetten" in Germany

Introduction

Waterbeds have a history much longer than many people would think possible with the first known one being recorded in the 1870s. In the 1960s and 1970s they were usually associated with frivolity and acquired a somewhat amusing connotation. Today, following improvements in construction techniques, they are seen as a viable option to ordinarily sprung beds especially for people needing to reduce the impact on pressure points whilst in bed. German design, engineering and manufacture is synonymous with the very highest and best quality. Subsequently many fine waterbeds or wasserbetten can be bought from Germany.

Water bed mattresses

the main advantage of a waterbed mattress is the reduction of pressure on the skin and skeleton of the person lying on it. There is a risk for anyone that is immobile or confined to bed for long periods of time to develop bed sores. These are caused by the blood supply being cut off at certain pressure points. The use of a water bed mattress can eliminate these pressure points and a heated water bed can positively aid blood circulation in the patient. The natural floatation effect of a waterbed mattress can be a great relief for people with musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, rheumatism or even plain backache. Again the waterbed mattress reduces any pressure points giving the sensation of weightlessness by accommodating the body shape that is lying on it, rather then being rigid and resisting the body shape or sagging unnaturally if too soft. This in turn means that your muscles can relax properly improving your circulation and ability to have a good nights sleep. A good waterbed store will discuss with you the best type of waterbed and mattress(Matratzen) - suited to your needs. These days’ waterbed mattresses - wasserbetten matratzen - are made of vinyl and can be filled with water or a special gel. You can also have ‘wave reducing’ water beds and hard or soft sided ones.

Slatted frames

a slatted frame for a waterbed (Lattenroste in German) is used to provide it with a hard wooden frame on the side. A slatted framed waterbed will normally have only one waterbed mattress, two mattresses can be used but they would need to be encased in one vinyl bag, which was then inserted into the slatted frame. An advantage of having a slatted frame for your waterbed is that it will come with a safety liner that gives you an extra layer of protection against leaks and punctures. A waterbed is a heavy object, subsequently a slatted frame for a waterbed needs to be constructed to the very highest standards to ensure that the water remains steady and that the frame doesn’t collapse under the weight of water pressing outwards onto it. As previously stated, German construction of slatted frames for waterbeds – (term is lattenroste)- takes some beating!

Bamboo furniture

if you’re the sort of person considering buying, or already have bought, a waterbed - why not also consider transforming your bedroom into something very different by fitting it out with bamboo furniture? Your waterbed may come with a bamboo slatted frame so what better to complement it than with other bamboo furniture (Bambus Möbel) in your bedroom. In Feng-Shui bamboo signifies: growth, revival, lightness and life and will create a special atmosphere in your bedroom allowing you to relax comfortably and re-energize yourself.  Every piece of bamboo is a unique shape and size, ensuring that bamboo furniture products are individually crafted. As well as being used in a waterbed frame items such as stools, chairs, cabinets and tables can all be made from bamboo. Bamboo is actually an evergreen grass, meaning that by choosing furniture made from bamboo you are acting in an environmentally friendly way, protecting the rain forests as it is not a tropical wood and even better is the fact that bamboo grows ten time faster than wood making it a rapidly renewable resource. If you want to investigate bamboo furniture further there are, of course, some great selections of bamboo furniture( Bambusmöbel )- available over the internet.
