Welcome to the Auburn University horn studio's home page. This page will provide information on current and upcoming events in the horn studio, provide some basic history of the horn, and links to other important horn related sites. This is also the official site for the Auburn Horn Club. Because of time pressures on both me and the students, the horn club is meeting in the summers, but I will resume meetings during the school year if there is sufficient interest.
We are just getting started with the Spring semester, and everyone's finding their place. Most of the studio plans to attend the S.E. Workshop in Columbus, GA this year. It's nice to have a short drive for a change.
The Faculty brass trio is planning a southeastern tour, which will include stops in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
In addition to the music of Steven Watkins, which we are still hosting at the horn site. Mr. Watkins compositions includes some very nice chamber music with horn for free. The list now includes a 2 movement duet, a five movement suite for horn quartet, and 3 woodwind quintets. Click here, or on the "free music" link to the left. I now have a growing catalogue of quartets and quintets, several of which are published by Puna Music Company. I also have some collections of quartets for teaching (easy through moderate levels) which are currently available through RWM music. They include a lot of American music from the Revolutionary war period through the late 19th century. I've also left the 2 pieces I've been arranging for the horn club that have been here for a while up on the site. The parts are fairly easy, but they require some independence on the part of the individual players. They can be found by following this link.
There isn't much new right now in the technical clinic's, but be sure to check those out, as well as the theory help section, if you're new to the site. If you have any specific topics you would like to see addressed, in either theory or horn technique, please let me know.
I
have also added a "What's New" link to the menu at the left. That
will be a quick way to find all the latest additions to the site. I'm also starting to hide little surprises (a free quartet, a recipe
for sausage bread, etc.) hidden on random pages to encourage people to browse.
Just look for this icon We can be reached by either the snail-mail or e-mail at the addresses listed above. Please feel free to call or write anytime. Let me know if there are any other features, or clinic topics, that you would like to see here. I am now getting a little technical assistance from the University to set up our own mailing lists since list-bot went off-line. For the time being I can manage the list just by having people e-mail me and managing the list manually. Click here if you would like to receive the AU Horn Studio Newsletter, either by e-mail or snail-mail.
