Auburn University Social Science Education
Pre-Teaching Experience Part II: Practicum
The Alabama
State Board of Education requires all candidates for certification to
have 150 hours of contact time in schools PRIOR to internship. This
requirement applies to all candidates who graduate after December 2006.
The Social
Science Education program has added a practicum to our program in order
to allow our graduates to meet the hours required by the State Board.
The practicum is essentially like the 5-day pre-teaching experience
that candidates will have already completed prior to admission to
teacher education.
- The
practicum will consist of a three day full-time experience in a public
6-12 classroom.
- Each
student will arrange for his or her own Practicum experience using the
same basic procedures that students used to set up their 5-day
Pre-Teaching experience.
- The
practicum experience must be completed before or during the term that
the student is enrolled in CTSE 4050.
- Two forms
will document the Practicum experience:
- An
2-Page Evaluation form completed by the Cooperating Teacher.
- A 3-Page
Daily Journal completed by the Auburn student
- Forms for
this Practicum experience should be turned in to Dr. Saye in HC 5048.
Forms SHOULD NOT be turned
in to HC3464 as you did in your original 5-day Pre-teaching.
- Provide
your Cooperatiing Teacher with a stamped, addressed envelope for
returning his or her evaluation. The envelope should be addressed to:
Dr. John Saye, 5040 Haley Center, Auburn University, AL 36849.
The links below
will provide students with the forms necessary to set up and report
their Practicum experience.
