Criteria for Effective Culminating Activity Design

 

I.          Conceptualization

A.  Task shows originality in conceptualizing powerful, authentic assessment

B.  Task requires a rich, multifaceted product

 

II.         Structure is provided to support thinking

            A.  Students are given clear, detailed instructions

            B.  Interim products are required & feedback is given

            C.  Scaffolding devices are provided to guide thinking (ex. data retrieval charts)

            D.  Students are provided adequate knowledge resources for the task

           

 

III.        Assessment

            A.  Activity adequately assesses understanding of the central question

            B.  Assessment criteria are clear

            C.  Models of exemplary performance are provided

 

 

IV.       Accountability

            A.  Individual roles describe responsibilities fully

            B.  Individuals are held accountable for group work & whole class presentations

            C.  Roles overlap to require working together to complete product
