The European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite (EMBOSS)

Welcome to The Santos Lab implementation of the "The European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite" (EMBOSS) (Rice et al. 2000, Trends in Genetics 16:276-277). The suite is a package of over 100 high-quality FREE Open Source software programs for sequence analyses. Some of the analyses that the suite is capable of (but are not limited to) include: sequence format conversion and alignment; virtual restriction enzyme digestion; sequence translations and open reading frame (ORFs) identification; rapid database searching with sequence patterns; protein motif identification; and presentation tools for publication. Data can either be cut and pasted or a file uploaded into the various interfaces. The software automatically copes with data in a variety of formats and has extensive documentation. The suite is being run at the AU Dept. of Biological Sciences on an Apple G5 14-processor computer cluster affectionately known as GUMP (Genomics Using Multiple Processors). In cases of time-consuming analyses, you may exit your web browser and GUMP will notify you via email (please provide the address at the bottom of the particular interface) to where your results can be accessed when the task is complete. WARNING: old result files are automatically purged from GUMP on a weekly basis, so download your data in a timely fashion.
