Relationships. We begin forming them in childhood...with our parents, relatives and siblings...with those we chose as friends...with our colleagues and coworkers. To a very large extent, the way we shape our relationships ultimately dictates the course of our life. And none holds greater importance...nor is more complex...than the intimate relationship we share with our spouse or partner. Why do some of these intimate relations fall apart while others thrive? Are there specific factors that contribute to relationship success or failure? Is it possible to predict potential relationship problems and intervene before they become destructive? These questions have troubled society for generations, and are the heart of what we do at The Relationship Research Laboratory. Our research probes the foundations of satisfaction and discord in romantic relationships, seeking to expand the base of knowledge available to professionals engaged in helping couples achieve harmony in their relationship. |
