Who
is my Faculty Advisor?
When you are admitted into
the College of Education you are assigned a Faculty Advisor in your major.
Your advisor’s name and room number are listed on the upper left hand corner
of your program checksheet. Your checksheet is in your file folder located
in the PES office.
When
do I see my Faculty Advisor?
You need to see your Faculty
Advisor at least once every semester to plan a schedule of courses for
the next semester. Throughout the school year, your Advisor is available
to help you. You may visit your Advisor as many times as you feel necessary.
How do I register for classes for next semester?
What
grade point average do I need to transfer to a teaching major?
You must have a cumulative
2.5 GPA to be eligible to transfer into the College of Education or to
declare a teaching major.
Can
I take courses at another college and get credit at Auburn?
You must request and complete
a Transient Form and be given approval by the PES office to be allowed
to take coursework elsewhere. Forms are available in the PES office. You
must give us the exact course number and title for approval. If possible,
provide the catalog or schedule of courses from the university you plan
to attend. It will make this process much easier. Once approved you will
be given a Transient Permission Form to take to your intended school. Please
note -“concurrent enrollment”- attending two institutions at the same time
- is not permitted by the College of Education.
How
do I register for the Alabama Prospective Teacher Test?
Check with the PES office
(3464 Haley Center) for test dates and the website registration address.
How
do I prepare for the Alabama Prospective Teacher test?
To help you, sample
test questions and guidelines are included on the registration website.
What
is the difference between being admitted into the College of Education
and being admitted to “Teacher Education”?
You may be admitted into the
College of Education as a freshman or transfer student. Admission to “Teacher
Education” has specific requirements you must meet. It is the professional
component of your program. The courses identified with an asterisk (*)
on your checksheet can be taken only after meeting these requirements.
What
are the requirements for admission to Teacher Education?
How
do I apply for Teacher Education?
Non Capped majors
When you have met the requirements
listed above report to 3464 Haley Center to fill out an
“orange“ application card.
An academic evaluator will then prepare your file folder for interview.
Please allow 2 days time for this. Meet with your faculty advisor
to arrange an interview date. Some departments interview only at designated
times others will interview on request.
Capped majors – GCEC
Early Childhood Education or GCEE Elementary
Education
When you have met the requirements
listed above report to 3464 Haley Center. You will fill out an "orange
card" and submit an additional application. Your total cumulative
grade point average will be calculated for you. All applicants will be
ranked by GPA in descending order. The "cutoff" line for GCEC will be 51
students per year. The "cutoff" line for GCEE will be 75 students per year.
You will be notified when & where the ranking list will be posted.
Students who fall below the "cutoff" will not continue to pursue that major.
Students selected will proceed to the departmental interview at a specified
date and time.
What
GPA do I need to be admitted in a capped GCEC/Early Childhood or GCEE/Elementary
major?
Because the number and academic
ability of applicants change each semester, the grade point "cutoff" changes.
We have no way of predicting where the "cutoff" will be in any given semester,
but a good rule of thumb is to maintain at least a minimum 3.0 GPA.
What
do I do if I am not admitted into Teacher Education?
There are two limited enrollment
programs - GCEC and GCEE - to which not all eligible applicants will be
admitted. If you are not admitted into your program of choice, you still
have many options. You may change your major within the college, transfer
to another college on campus or transfer to another institution. You are
encouraged to discuss your concerns with your advisor. It is important
to develop alternative academic plans early in your college career that
still help you achieve your educational or career goals.
When
do I fill out my internship application?
You must apply two semesters
(or one year) before you plan to intern. Applications are available on-line
in the Student Orientation Manual. Once completed submit your application
to your Faculty Advisor. You will receive a credit check of your coursework
in the mail 3 weeks after your application has been evaluated. If you discover
any discrepancies – come to the PES office immediately. This is the only
credit check you will receive from the PES office.
Can
I choose where I want to intern?
When you fill out your application
for internship you will list 3 sites (in order of preference) within
a 60 mile radius of Auburn University. You will be assigned
based on the student teaching sites that are available at that time, your
Faculty Advisor’s recommendation and your request.
Can
I take a course during internship?
You are asked to spend your
semester of internship concentrating on that activity.
You may not schedule other
courses during your internship semester.
How
do I apply for my teaching license?
After successful completion
of your degree requirements, the PES office will provide you with the appropriate
forms to apply for your license at the Intern Orientation Meeting at the
beginning of your internship semester.
How
long will it take before I get my license?
You will receive your teaching
certificate in the mail 5 to 6 months after your application has been sent
to the State Department in Montgomery.
How
do I find a teaching position?
Assistance is available in
the Career Services office located in room 303 Mary Martin Hall. This office
conducts Education Interview Day. This is a recruiting fair during
which representatives of school systems and other educational facilities
from the all over the southeast come to campus to conduct screening interviews
for prospective employees. Dates and information are available in the PES
office.
What forms do I use for Pre-Teaching?
