INITIATION
-
The initiation is held in an appropriate locale with a table for the certificates,
cards and pins, as well as the record book for the initiates to sign. In
the center are three candles, red, white and blue, arranged to form a DELTA,
the white candle at the apex. A candle snuffer would be a convenient item
for extinguishing the candles later in the ceremony.
-
The official Pi Delta Phi banner should be prominently displayed.
-
Large flags of the United States and of France are appropriate but optional:
the American flag at the presiding officer's right, and the French flag
to the left.
-
Initiates may be seated either around the back of the table or directly
in front.
-
The ceremony begins with the candles already lighted.
-
A program of music, dance or recitations from literary works in French
is a desirable part of the ceremony.
-
Each chapter provides a bound book which each initiate will sign at the
close of the ceremony.
