Decomposition rates of organic mulches
Producers interested in adopting no-till may be able to
reduce fertilizer inputs because surface-placed residue releases nutrients
at a slower rate than buried residue. Therefore more nutrients are potentially
available to spring crops if residues are left on the soil surface.
Here's a link to some of our preliminary results, presented
at the American Society of Agronomy Southern Branch meeting in Atlanta,
GA on Feb. 2, 2009. This presentation
won First Place in the Graduate Student Oral Presentation for Soils
division.
