Community Garden
Volunteers are always welcome!
Learn about growing your own food from experienced locals and professionals,
ask them all your questions, as well as help a worthy cause. All proceeds
go to the East Alabama Food Bank.
Come for as long or short as you like, do what you can, and have fun.
Church groups, fraternities, sororities, civic organizations of all
kinds, please join us.
We always need help!
We have flexible schedules that allow
us to accomodate volunteers, so please let us know if you would like to
help out by contacting me or sending an email. Typically,
we need help to stake tomatoes, fix the plastic mulch in places, and cultivate
between the rows.
Directions
to the community garden can be found here. The red lines are dirt roads. Follow them to a gap in the fence, which will lead you to the community garden.
You can park by the shed. (On football game weekends, the roads are chained off beginning on Wednesdays at noon, so that you'll have to walk or jump fences to get there.)
Other volunteer opportunities to help the East Alabama Food
Bank are available through the Annual
Plant Sale. Evie Ratner and Robin Jaffe work incredibly hard to
make this benefit possible, and they can use your help.
If you are interested in community service, the community
garden and the plant sale are great opportunities to help the less fortunate
in our area!
