EXPERIENCE
1996- Executive Director, Associated Schools of Construction. Principal contact person for the association which includes approximately ninety member colleges with construction related teaching programs. Provide liaison with the construction industry. Remain on Building Science faculty as an adjunct professor to teach construction safety and a graduate course in value engineering. Provide expert witness service on safety related court cases.
1977-96 Associate Professor, Department of Building Science, Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama. Taught courses in mechanics of structures, soils and foundations, construction equipment, safety, contracting business and value enginnering. Performed research, published and provided consultation services related to construction industry. Member of graduate faculty. Member of University Safety Committee. Retired from full-time teaching in 1996.
1976-77 Vice Commander, Air Force Civil Engineering Center, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. Directed and controlled 220-man organization with $12 million annual budget for world-wide civil engineering technical services, research, and development. Provided guidance and administered activities in environmental quality control, energy conservation, corrosion control, pavement design and maintenance, alternate energy sources, safety, and contingency planning. Retired at rank of Lt. Colonel.
1973-76 Chief, Engineering Division, Directorate of Construction, United States Air Forces in Europe. Managed $50 million design and construction program in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Projects included buildings, pavements, and utility systems. Supervised fifteen professional engineers and architects.
1970-73 Associate Professor and Department Head, Pennsylvania State University.
Taught Management, History, Principles of Flight, and Military Operations to ROTC students. Department Head for last five months.
1969-70 Flight Operations Officer, Air Division, Vietnam. Planned and directed military logistic flying operations.
1966-69 Aircraft Commander, Tactical Airlift. Pope AFB, N.C. Commanded C-130 multi-engine aircraft crew on world-wide flying missions. Additional duty - squadron flight safety officer.
1963-66 Facilities Maintenance Engineer and Chief, Engineering Division, Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. Provided guidance and technical services to civil engineers operating facilities and utilities at fifteen remote stations. Supervised ten professional engineers who provided technical support for facilities maintenance/repair projects throughout Alaska.
1962-63 Chief, Operations and Maintenance Division, Base Civil Engineer, Webb AFB, Texas. Planned and directed work of 85 facilities craftsmen. Work included carpentry, sheet metal, welding, painting, heavy equipment operation, roads, maintenance, snow removal, and utility systems operation and maintenance.
1960-61 Graduate Student, Stanford University, California.
1959-60 Pilot, Multi-engine Transport, Kelly AFB, Texas. Flew C-124 on world-wide flying missions.
1957-59 Civil Engineer, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. Developed scope, cost, and justification for civil engineering maintenance, repair, and new construction projects.
1956-57 U. S. Air Force pilot training.
1956 Design Engineer, U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, Rock Springs, Wyoming. Quantity take-off for earthwork and concrete.
