AMC 10 and AMC 12 Contest B

Eligibility AMC 10: Grade 10 or lower. Most participants are in grade 8, 9 or 10.
Eligibility AMC 12: Grade 12 or lower. Most participants are in grade 11 or 12.
Registration deadline: January 20, 2010

These competitions are sponsored by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and by the Women in Science and Engineering Institute (WISE). There is no fee. Every participant will receive a Certificate of Participation. Top scorers in each grade will receive a Certificate of Achievement plus a small non-monetary award. WISE will recognize high scorers among girls.

AIME: The AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination) is an intermediate examination between the AMC 10 or AMC 12 and the USAMO. All students who take the AMC 12 and achieve a score of 100 or more out of a possible 150 or are in the top 5% qualify for the AIME. All students who take the AMC 10 and achieve a score of 120 or more out of a possible 150 or are in the top 1% also qualify for the AIME.

USAMO: The USAMO (United States of America Mathematics Olympiad) provides a means of identifying and encouraging the most creative secondary mathematics students in the country. It serves to indicate the talent of those who may become leaders in the mathematical sciences of the next generation. The USAMO is part of a worldwide system of national mathematics competitions, a movement in which both educators and research mathematicians are engaged in recognizing and celebrating the imagination and resourcefulness of our youth.
The USAMO is a six question, two day, 9 hour essay/proof examination. About 500 of the top scoring AMC participants (based on a weighted average) are invited to take the USAMO. U. S. citizens and students legally residing in the United States and Canada (with qualifyng scores) are eligible to take the USAMO.
