The Book of Matthew

The Bible has sold more copies than any other book in the world.  It is also probably one of the most controversial books of today.  While Christians will argue that this book is the word of God and everything in it is true, others will tell you that it is just a work of fiction and not to trust it.  The Four different gospels are one of the most controversial subjects in the Bible.  Some of the topics that are most debated are; who went to the tomb, why they went to the tomb, how many angels were present, what the angels said, and whom Jesus Christ appeared to.  I will show how this is not a contridiction, but simply different versions of the same story.

In the book of Matthew, two women went to the tomb to see the body of Christ.  “After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb” (Matthew 28:1).  But according to John, only one woman went.  “Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb,” (John 20:1).  Mark also points out that there were five women who went to the tomb.  So who is correct?  One author says that Mary Magdalene, Mary, and Salome went to the tomb and other women followed them there.
Many would argue that the Bible is full of contradictions and should not be believed.  Others believe that the Bible is true and is the word of God.  So, then, why are there so many different versions?  They are different because four very different people wrote them.  If you take four different newspaper articles about an Auburn football game, you would have four completely different versions.  One writer might claim that the quarter back was the hero of the game while another might say that it was the defense.  There are not contradictions in the Bible, just different versions of a great story.
