ZSS Overview
The following diagram indicates the general ZSS system and its
components:
ZSS Functions
ZSS is our Windows (tm) operating system. What it does for
us is:
- Security and User Profiles
- Common Online Interface (consistency of presentation)
- Overall Application Management
- CICS Applications
- Visage
- SCT Web
- Online Applications and Database Warehouse
- Medium for Online Help
- Repository for Online Procedures and Screens
- Includes GUI-Like Screen Building Tools
ZSS System
This is the heart of the entire SCT Plus system. It contains the control
routines that are shared by all other systems. In addition, it has
all the online programs that control online processing.
The Database Definition Files for each system are maintained by
programs that are part of the ZSS system.
ZSS Base Files
The following files are used in the base ZSS system:
- NAMEFL
- This is a single record file that contains information about all
ZSS systems. It contains the name of our institution and flags to
indicate which systems we have and which options we are using. For
example, this file contains a flag which indicates whether we permit
mixed case text entry.
- ZSFILE
- All screens for all ZSS systems are stored in this file. Screens
can be changed through ZSS Screen Builder within the appropriate
system.
- ZPFILE
- The online systems operate through what are called procedures.
This file contains all the procedures for all ZSS systems. Procedures
can be changed online through ZSS Screen Builder within the
appropriate system.
- DTFILE
- The DBD files for each system contain data translation values.
When the DBD process is run for a system, these data translation
values are placed in a global code file, the DTFILE.
- XFFILE
- One key in the ZSS system is to keep files synchronized.
This is done by using a time stamp and date stamp for various files.
This file stores those time and date stamps.
- ZCFILE
- All matters of security for ZSS are stored in this file. This
includes logon information, initial screen displays and value-based
security. Strictly speaking, logon security is controlled by RACF,
but the appropriate information must be here or the logon process will
fail.
- ZAFILE
- ZSS has a procedure option to audit
an operation. If the audit procedure is put into a procedure,
a before and after image of any fields changed on the screen is
written to this, the audit file.
System-Based ZSS Files
There are several files that each ZSS system uses that are common in
format.
- XDFnnn
- The nnn is the system number of the ZSS system
to which this file applies. This is the database definition file
that the system uses to control most of its functions. It is updated
through the AU3115/AU3120 process.
- XTSnnn
- This is the online database source definition file for the
nnn system. SCT has not totally abandoned this file,
but it is no longer an integral part of the database definition
process.
- ZDFLnn
- Each ZSS system has a subsystem called Data Collect.
This file is the data collect file. Data collect batches are
extracted in the batch environment for batch processing.
nn is the system number.
- ZODnnn
- This is the online documentation system for ZSS
system
nnn. This file is accompanied by two alternate indexes,
named ZOXnnn and ZOYnnn. The paths for
these files are called ZOPnnn and
ZOQnnn respectively.
