Post-Implementation Review

The post-implementation review is of utmost importance. Implementation of new systems/subsystems and changes to existing ones is an ongoing process. A review session permits an examination of the procedures used to determine what can be done to make the next process easier. It can also highlight problems and concerns that still need to be addressed. The post-implementation review should include:

Problems Review
A review of the problems encountered is quite necessary. First, it may indicate certain problems which still exist that need attention. Second, it may point out procedural difficulties that can be remedied in a future testing period.

Goals and Objectives
A review of stated goals and objectives is important for two reasons. First, it may point out that certain goals and objectives of the testing process have not been met. If this is the case, the Testing Leader should institute a process to determine whether something further is necessary or whether the goals and objectives established but not met were unnecessary in the testing process. Second, a review can help in establishment of goals and objectives in future projects.

Testing Plan
As with the previous two topics, a review here points out difficulties encountered that may need to be addressed and provides valuable feedback for future projects.

Responsibilities Review
This may be a difficult area to review. Any review may be taken by individuals as criticism of the how that individual handled the area for which he/she was responsible. It is imperative that people understand that this is a review of the process rather than a review of the individual.

This review needs to look at each area of responsibility. Did the area function well. If not, was it a result of the responsibility being poorly defined, or was it due to other factors.

The basic objective of this review is to determine if areas of responsibility were well-defined for the project and whether the area contributed to the success of the testing project.

While a review of the project as a whole is called for, it is beyond the scope of this document, which attempts to focus only on the testing phase of a project.
