ABOUT
My name is Bethany Heck, and I am a Graphic Design Student at Auburn University. I've been working with web design since early adolescence. It started as a hobby and grew into a skill set, a job, and a passion.
Now that I am enrolled in art and design classes at Auburn, my abilities and tastes have been stretched beyond the digital realm. Instead of studying and striving to build beautiful websites, I want to create works that can be seen as more than just websites; I want to make art with the web as my medium.
I hope you enjoy the site and my portfolio, thank you for stopping by!

PORTFOLIO
This is a selection of my school and professional works. Many of the sections have a slideshow with more views of the work. To see recreational pieces, click on the "Design Recreation" link on the menu.
Typography - Book
This was the final project in Typography. We had to select a piece of writing to base our book on. I chose a National Review article titled "Art About Nothing" by Elizabeth Fisher. The author criticizes Dada artwork, and references a poem from Tristan Tzara titled "How to make a DADA poem". I wanted to take the text of the article and create a dada piece around it as the book progressed by following the instructions in the poem. In the end, the article becomes part of the dada creation.
Processes - Constructivist House of Cards
The card shapes are based off the Eames house of cards. We were assigned a period in graphic design history and had to design a set of ten cards and construct them in three dimensional form.
Typography - Project 2
We had to selective photographic imagery that had shapes that resembled letterforms, and create a spread from it.Processes - Hometown T-shirt
This is a tshirt based off my home town, which is Auburn, Alabama. I decided to base my design off a landmark that no longer exitsted, making it like a tourist trap. I ended up with two possible variations of the shirt, and ultimate went with the cleaner bottlecap design.
Typography - Syntax
We were given a choice of several quotes about graphic design, and had to design a three panel composition that visualized the quote. I chose "A good solution, in addition to being right, should have the potential for longevity. Yet I don’t think one can design for permanence. One designs for function, for usefulness, rightness, beauty. Permanence is up to God.” — Paul Rand".
Processes - Instructional Panels
The assignment was to create a step by step instructional piece that explained a specific activity, using found materials. I used lineart from old fencing and dancing books to show "How to steal a gentleman's hat in a duel".
Typography - Project 1
We had to crop the letterforms in the word typography and then bring them together to form one composition.
Typography - Cube
The assignment was to create a design for a 3 dimensional cube that would function in both 2d and 3d form and expressed ourselves as people. This design reflects
