Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) is
a national program for new or recent Ph.D.s in the mathematical sciences who
are interested in improving the teaching and learning of undergraduate
mathematics. Project NExT-SE is the Southeastern Section's version of the
program. Non-tenured, Ph.D. holding faculty members in our section are
invited to apply to become Project NExT-SE Fellows.
The meeting for the NExT-SE Fellows will be March 30-31, 2006 at
Auburn University, just prior to the annual section meeting. At this
workshop, participants will discuss topics of special relevance to beginning
faculty. Topics could include
New approaches to teaching calculus, pre-calculus, and more advanced courses;
Alternative methods of teaching and assessing student learning;
Using technology in the classroom;
Perspectives from pedagogical research;
Writing grant proposals;
Balancing teaching and research.
NExT-SE Fellows will remain in contact with one another via an electronic network, and the next meeting will take place in the spring of 2007.
