ENGL 4610

Fall 2003

Additional Instructions for Oral Presentation Handouts

Please be sure that the handouts are as professional looking as possible: edit and proofread carefully, and have a clear original and good-quality photocopy for distribution (the current number of copies needed is 24).

The original assignment sheet describes what belongs in each section of the handout.  In addition, I would like Section 3 (evidence and sources) to include:

List in order each primary narrative source you mention in the presentation (chronicle, romance, etc.):

·        the medieval author (if known)

·        standard title (preferably in the original language, followed by English translation in parentheses)

·        date (according to your research source)

For example, “Nennius,” Historia Brittonum (History of the Britons), c. 800

List in order each primary non-narrative source you mention in the presentation (document, archeological site, manuscript miniature, sculpture, etc.), giving the full information that your secondary source provides.

For example, Abduction of Winlogee (Guinevere), Modena Cathedral, Italy, archivolt, north portal.

(Remember, “primary” source in this case means from the Middle Ages; “secondary” sources are the scholarly studies you have read.)

If in doubt about anything, please check with me in advance.
