Provision of hospice care through an interdisciplinary approach inherently includes recognition that patients, caregivers, and members of the community often need to have psychosocial and spiritual counseling in addition to the provision of medical care. Thus, member hospices of the Alabama Hospice Organization offer these types of counseling in a variety of ways utilizing a variety of staff and volunteer assets.

Grief counseling and bereavement services are offered upon admission, are provided throughout the course of hospice care for the patient, and are extended following the patient’s death.

Similarly, spiritual counseling through staff and volunteer clergy, and often other supportive individuals, helps meet needs that may not otherwise be recognized in some healthcare sectors. These critical areas of counseling, coupled with the other aspects of care, help patients and their loved ones achieve important goals when facing end of life issues.

Alabama Hospice Organization is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to ensuring quality end-of-life care for all terminally ill patients and their families in Alabama. Hospice employees provide compassionate care for persons who want to spend their final days at home, free of pain, and with the people they love. Alabama Hospice Organization believes that palliative medicine will enhance the terminally ill patient’s quality of life, making their final days comfortable and memorable for both themselves and their family.
