SOURCES OF CRIMINAL AND DELINQUENCY STATISTICS
There is a multitude of statistics on crime and delinquency available over the internet. The following sources are some of the most commonly used: Some of these sources require you to download and read with an Adobe Reader .
The "Sourcebook" is a compilation of statistics from a variety of sources. Included here are portions of the Uniform Crime Reports, Self Reports, Victim Surveys, data on prison populations, reports of law enforcement expenditures, etc. This is an invaluable reference tool, and will be sufficient for most of the statistical needs that undergraduate students will have.
The "UCR" are the official reports of crime from police departments as reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Included here will be statistics available through the "Sourcebook" as well as a multitude of additional data. The URL address above is to the FBI homepage, which includes a hypertext to the UCR, as well as to a variety of other information available from the FBI.
The "Reference Service" compiles and publishes data from a variety of government sources. Included here is information on correctional populations, victims, the courts, drugs and crime and much more.
This source contains a wide range of data on victimization, capital punishment statistics, firearms offenses, and much more.
