WHAT CAN I DOto stop Year-Round School in Auburn?
The Auburn City School System is considering a change to Year-Round School (quarters) at a time when Auburn University is changing to semesters. This will be very disruptive to students and families. If you have an opinion on this, please review the information on this web site and take action. The decision to change is supposed to be made in December 1998 (THIS YEAR!). If the decision is to go ahead and implement Year-Round School, this will probably be done for the following school year with K-12 classes beginning next summer, very possibly at the beginning of July. Unless members of our community speak up and make themselves heard, they will have no input into this decision and Year-Round School will likely become a reality for the K-12 schools in Auburn.

Tips for writing letters to the editor.
>> Contact Dr. Suzanne Freeman, the school system Year-Round School Committee co-chair, for a list of Year-Round School committee members, then either write to them or send your comments to them to Dr. Freeman. She will have any letters you send to for the committee members copied and sent to them. Dr. Freeman's phone is 1 334 887 2100.
>> We discourage calling or talking directly to committee members unless they are personal acquaintances. These people volunteered for the committee and are just trying to do a good job. We do not want them to feel harassed. Our input to them should be for informational purposes, i.e. so they know how members of our community feel about Year-Round School and to provide them with factual information concerning the reasons why we don't feel it's a good idea for Auburn.
>> Call your PTA President.
>> Most importantly: tell your friends and get them involved.
