No confusion intended
A question has been raised concerning the traditional calendar and Sample Calendar A having the same number of sum mer vacation days. Initially the Alternative Calendar Subcommittee was asked to design four alternative calendars to present to the whole committee and the Community as examples of what an alternative calendar might look like. Calendar A, B, C and D on the current survey are the examples of their work.
All these calendars are based on the 1999-2000 school year. When the survey subcommittee was designing the survey, it was suggested in the interest of fairness and clarity that a traditional calendar be added. The traditional calendar added was the current 1998-99 school calendar. Since no traditional calendar had been designed for 1999-2000 (the regular calendar committee traditionally does not meet until after the Christmas holidays), no school starting date had been determined. The previous summer (summer of 1998) vacation days were used as an example. That summer had 11 weeks of summer vacation. Because Auburn City School's current calendar ends approximately a week earlier than it typically ends (ending May 27 rather than June 3) and sample A is based on 1999-2000, it allows an 1l-week summer during the summer of 1999.
For clarity, see the actual calendars. The surveys are abbreviated versions of the actual sample calendars. Any confusion about the calendars was certainly not intended.
