Letter: Reader: YRS doesn't add up
Having seen a copy of the YRS survey with its sample calendars, I must ask the simple mathematical question: how is it possible that a traditional calendar that ends May 27 and starts August 20 has The SAME NUMBER OF WEEKS SUMMER VACATION as YRS Calendar A that ends May 25 and starts August 10? I see an approximate difference of a week and a half. Again comparing the two calendars: if I have thc SAME number of weeks summer vacation how can I have MORE WEEKS OFF during the school year with YRS? Are the committee and board members-- those responsible for educating my children--mistaken on simple principles of math Or is it a smokescreen to give the parents the comfortable feeling of getting something for nothing? Or do the board members and the superintendent and his assistants feel that together they can create time? You may write my answer to this equation: something about those in power pushing YRS just doesn't add up.
