Letter: Residents still opposed to YRS
On a television program broadcasted Saturday morning, Oct. 31, Dr. Martin, superintendent of Auburn City Schools, who will make a recommendation to the Board of Education this December concerning YRS, claimed that public sentiment was turning towards YRS. This statement is in conflict with the facts.
I have been meeting people gathering signatures for a petition to stop Year Round School and an over whelming majority of the people I have met outside Kroger, at Loachapoka Syrup Sopping, at the High School football games and at the polls Nov. 3 are opposed to a calendar change.
YRS was not supported by the majority of those attending a series of PTA meetings held over the last two weeks. Dr. Martin is gauging public opinion by looking at one meeting Û a Board of Education meeting where discussion was limited due to time constraints. He is not basing his opinion on open, free discussion with the public. The majority of Auburn ciizens are completely opposed to a calendar change. We support the traditional calendar!
If you agree, make your opinion count! Come to the Board of Education meeting Tuesday Nov. 10, 6 p.m., at Auburn High School Multimedia room (south side of building.) This will be the LAST CHANCE for public input to the Board on this subject. Let the Board know of your opposition to YRS before they vote on the issue Dec. 15. Get involved in the campaign to Stop Year-Round Schooling!
